OUR STORY
In August of 2023, Ethos founder Josh Haskell sent a letter to the editor titled “Escaping Porn’s Prison,” published in The Observer, the University of Notre Dame’s student-run newspaper. Haskell candidly discussed the severity of addiction to pornography and reflected on his own journey to recovery. He found great success through accountability partners and a deepened spiritual life. Haskell wanted to share this message of freedom with others.

He used this article to advertise a small group program that he and then Notre Dame junior Nadim Khouzam had founded. They coordinated small groups and accountability partners to connect men with the necessary accountability measures, community, and prayer to overcome addiction. In March of 2024, Notre Dame’s Campus Ministry adopted Ethos (then called Ascend), and the organization continued to grow. After one year, membership reached 150 members, split among over 25 small groups.

From its inception, Ethos has opposed pornography and the culture of sexual vice. Now, Ethos offers a curriculum based on accountability and prayer for college-age men looking to overcome their addiction to pornography.
